InnoDB vs MyISAM Storage Engines
MySQL Storage Engines
A storage engine controls how MySQL stores and handles table data. The two main ones are InnoDB (default) and MyISAM.
InnoDB vs MyISAM
| Feature | InnoDB | MyISAM |
|---|---|---|
| Transactions | Yes (ACID) | No |
| Foreign keys | Yes | No |
| Locking | Row-level | Table-level |
| Best for | most apps | read-heavy, simple |
Summary
- InnoDB (default): transactions, foreign keys, row locking — use for most apps.
- MyISAM: faster simple reads, no transactions/foreign keys.
